The Surry Arts Council Scholarship program is open to all residents of Surry County. It is important that you complete all items on this application. If an item does not apply to you, simply write "not applicable" in the blank. Please print or type your responses. Illegible and/or incomplete applications will not be considered for review. All of the information on this application must be true and accurate.

Required Attachments: College bound or college students must attach a copy of their most recent transcript or grade report.

The deadline for submission is Friday, April 28, 2017 at 5:00 pm. Applications returned after this date will not be reviewed or considered by the SAC Scholarship Committee. There will be no exceptions.

The Surry Arts Council received its annual allocation notification of $19,085 for the 2015-2016 Grassroots Grant Award from the North Carolina Department of Cultural Resources. The Surry Arts Council subgrants 50% of these funds annually to Surry County groups providing arts activities to our citizens. The subgrant committee reviewed applications and awarded $9,542.50 for 2015-2016 as follows:

  • $600 was awarded to The Mount Airy Downtown Business Association for marketing for the Spring Art Walk and for enhanced arts programming for Farmfest.
  • $3,342.50 was awarded to the Foothills Arts Council for operations and program support.
  • $1,000 was awarded to the Mount Airy Public Library for a collaboration to bring Mick Moloney to Mount Airy for an Irish musical performance in March, 2016.
  • $1,200 was awarded to the Mount Airy Photography Club for a free photography community presentation/workshop(s).
  • $1,200 was awarded to Veterans Memorial Park, Inc for free instrument and dance workshops at the Mount Airy Fiddlers Convention.
  • $1,000 was awarded to VOCE for instrumental accompanists and other artist fees for concerts.
  • $1,200 was awarded to Minglewood Farm for Art and Nature programming.


Guidelines for Grassroots Arts Programs Subgrants

Since 1977, the N. C. Arts Council's Grassroots Arts Program has provided North Carolina citizens access to quality arts experiences. The program distributes funds for the arts in all 100 counties of the state primarily through partnerships with local arts councils. The Surry Arts Council serves as the N. C. Arts Council's partner in awarding subgrants in Surry County.
